Breakin' Out
Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine pulses with the sounds of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Petty and his collaborators—who have earned 18 Grammy nominations in the band's 30-year career—have made their mark on American rock ‘n' roll with a slew of No. 1 singles such as "Free Fallin'," "I Won't Back Down" and "American Girl." Although the band's most recent recording was 2002's The Last DJ, its tour comes on the heels of Petty's dabblings with his pre-Heartbreakers band Mudcrutch; Petty and the group released its self-titled album in April. Petty's last solo album was Highway Companion in 2006; he was also a member of The Traveling Wilburys. Singer-songwriter Steve Winwood opens the show. 8808 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine, 714.740.2000.
